DAY SUMMARY:

We’re literally melting!   Well today was tricky and did not produce the same results as yesterday.  We tried a rolling start and it did not work out too well.  They issued a delayed start on one leg, but team 95 missed the sign, throwing their day off.  Kev and I tried to do a split calibration mid day with our speedo, as there are technical reasons to do this when the temps are increasing during the day… but that did not help us :).  We had to adjust our stop times because my acceleration times were longer(because the tranny in car 100 needs to be babied)… but that also did not help. Team 95 had a wrong turn, but pretty sure it will not penalize them.  Team 95 is still holding onto 5th place in their division.    Both cars encountered downpours that made visibility tricky as well as the increased traffic that required real time adjustments. Today, in the end both cars made the day and we learned from it.  Tomorrow is another day, and an important day if we want to place any real wins by the end of the week.  Overall we are all having fun.

    Great job classic men! Great pics too! Driving those cars is like Cool Hand Luke putting himself in the box. Self inflicted punishment!

Race -Prep

Preparing for this is challenging in itself.  We are given a list of requirements to be “race ready”.  When the cars arrive in St. Paul, they will need to pass a technical inspection meeting those requirements which include retrofitting a special “timewise” speedometer and a rally clock.  Additionally the cars factory speedometer and odometer must disabled or blacked out.  Each car must also have the following items in the car: Emergency Road Kit, Tow Rope, first aid kit, 2 gallons of water and a flashlight.     The speedometer requires the custom fabrication of mounting bracket to both mount the speedometer inside as well as the speed sensor at the front wheel along with/two magnets mounted to the wheel.  I also had to fabricate a bracket to mount the rally clocks to the factory ash trays so I did not make any holes in the original dash.  See pic below for what I used for both cars.  Feel the heat!  To imagine, these little cars are ver...

Added some Alfa Romeo good luck emblems to the cars because we’re going to need it.  .  In 1923, driver  Ugo Sivocci ,  seeking good fortune, painted a four-leaf clover on his Alfa Romeo race car for the Targa Florio race.  He won, and the clover became a symbol of the brand, initially for racing and later for high-performance production models.    Both cars passed our tech inspections giving my word to pick up a missing fire extinguisher on car #100 before race day.  We did our first speedometer calibration run after 2 hours debating on which formula to use to adjust our time wise speedometers.  Check. That is all figured out now.    Throttle Garage is 10x more prepared than we were last year. Here are some pics of the evening welcome reception and X-cup auction.
