DAY SUMMARY:

Finally some nice cool weather through the West Virginia hills(morning).  Both Alfa’s performed exceptionally well in crazy accents/decents through the W.Virginia Mountains. We climbed 14,000 feet today! They were made for this type of driving and our scores today proved it!    

Car #95 got caught up under the gate of a railroad crossing(only feet from passing train). We were treated to a drive through of the New River Gorge National Park loop after our first race leg.    Nice close of the day at a hosted dinner at the Virginia Transportation Museum with a cool live band. Off to the hotel for our race team recap(along with Derek and Nikki Parent and my wife Christine to support us for the remainder of the trip).  Today was our last day to throw out our worst scores and good thing as they had a mishap that resulted in a 5 min mistake.  Tomorrow and Sunday is considered to be the “Championship Round” and what you get is what you get. Team #95 is in the running to take home a trophy just chasing the 5th place team and team 100 continues to move up the ranks!

Hello everyone!  Welcome to the 2025 Throttle Car Club Great Race Blog.   The purpose of this blog is to provide a centralized public location for all things related to our adventures in competing in the upcoming 2025 Great Race.  Here, you will be able to learn about this unique rally race, what it takes to enter and prepare for the race as well as follow along with our daily progress. Race -Prep

Preparing for this is challenging in itself.  We are given a list of requirements to be “race ready”.  When the cars arrive in St. Paul, they will need to pass a technical inspection meeting those requirements which include retrofitting a special “timewise” speedometer and a rally clock.  Additionally the cars factory speedometer and odometer must disabled or blacked out.  Each car must also have the following items in the car: Emergency Road Kit, Tow Rope, first aid kit, 2 gallons of water and a flashlight.     The speedometer requires the custom fabrication of mounting bracket to both mount the speedometer inside as well as the speed sensor at the front wheel along with/two magnets mounted to the wheel.  I also had to fabricate a bracket to mount the rally clocks to the factory ash trays so I did not make any holes in the original dash.  See pic below for what I used for both cars.  Feel the heat!  To imagine, these little cars are ver...

Added some Alfa Romeo good luck emblems to the cars because we’re going to need it.  .  In 1923, driver  Ugo Sivocci ,  seeking good fortune, painted a four-leaf clover on his Alfa Romeo race car for the Targa Florio race.  He won, and the clover became a symbol of the brand, initially for racing and later for high-performance production models.    Both cars passed our tech inspections giving my word to pick up a missing fire extinguisher on car #100 before race day.  We did our first speedometer calibration run after 2 hours debating on which formula to use to adjust our time wise speedometers.  Check. That is all figured out now.    Throttle Garage is 10x more prepared than we were last year. Here are some pics of the evening welcome reception and X-cup auction.
